Story Problem plz help ! 10 points to first best answer !?
PLEASE SHOW WORK !
There is a farmer who raises poultry he sells roosters for $5,Hens for $3, and 3 baby chicks for $1. The farmer goes to the market and sells 100 poultry and makes $100 how many of each did he sell ?
our teacher told us we were supposed to solve it by system of equations

My answer is -
12 roosters @ $5, 4 hens @ $3, and 84 chicks @ 3 for $1.
= $60 + $12 + $28
= $100.
I have done Maths up to university level and I do not think that you have the enough of or the right information to do it by any formula or series of equations.
I think you just have to do it by trial and error with a fair amount of commonsense thrown in.
The two main facts that I worked from were -
If you are paying $100 for 100 birds at an average of $1 each the number of chicks was going to be high and the number of roosters could only be about 10 which would take up $50 of the original $100.
I also knew that the number of chicks was going to be a multiple of three or otherwise you would be dealing in fractions of birds.
I started with 10 10 and 60
which meant that spent $100 but I only had 80 birds so I instantly knew that there were heaps more chicks, so I went to 72 and did the sums and again I instantly knew that there were heaps more chicks, so I went to 84 and adjusted the other number combinations as I went.
